Have Roofing Questions?

Find the Answers in our Roofing FAQ

Replacing a roof isn’t always as exciting as a kitchen remodel or bathroom renovation, but it’s typically a big investment or as some would consider, expense. Having to replace your roof typically happens only once, maybe twice, in a lifetime, so many homeowners aren’t familiar with the process, the latest roofing shingles or even how to choose a roofer. We encourage homeowners to ask these important roofing questions!

Below are the roofing questions we are asked most often or sometimes referred to as roofing FAQ.

Older roofing shingles typically have a 15 to 30 year lifespan depending on the shingles‘ quality, the location and free cover or your home.

The Certainteed shingles we use today have “lifetime warranties, the shingles used decades ago didn’t. We tell our customers that 12 years is a safe bet and to start looking for these warning signs :

  • Curling shingles
  • Loss of the asphalt granulation
  • Evidence or leaking on your ceilings
  • Cracked or discolored interior drywall
  • Decaying shingles
  • Missing shingles
  • Cracking
  • Wind damage
  • Broken or damaged shingles
  • Rusted or missing flashing

This will depend on whether the roofing shingles have been compromised or are still in good condition. Good roofing shingles can be repaired if the damage has not affected their integrity. It your roof shingles are old and decaying, it’s a better idea to replace the entire roof or it’s just a matter of time before it gets worst.

Several factors go into determining the cost or your new roof. They are the quality and professionalism of your roofing contractor, the brand, type and grade or roofing shingle you select, the size or your roof and the shape and slope or your roofline.

Don’t choose a roofing contractor on cost alone. Price is a key factor, but not the only factor you should consider. Quality roofing material and contractor craftsmanship have a huge value. Trust us, we’ve seen plenty of horror stories. Hiring the cheapest roofing contractor could cost more in the long run when you consider the cost to repair sub-par roofing and the damage it causes.
